- A deep commitment and knowledge that we can transform conflicts more constructively, that we can prevent violence, and that we need to do all we can to help people in healing after violence and trauma. A passion for the field, good friendships, deep inspiration, and the opportunity to have worked together with many wonderful people around the world.

- Kai Frithjof Brand-Jacobsen is a practicing peaceworker, and founder and Director of the Peace Action, Training and Research Institute of Romania (PATRIR). Kai is a global consultant, advisor and practitioner on peacebuilding, conflict transformation, war-to-peace transitions, and post-war reconciliation and healing, and has worked in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Russia, Moldova, South Eastern Europe, Mexico, Colombia, Cambodia, southern Thailand, Burma, Somalia, Aceh, North America, and the Middle East at the invitation of governments, inter-governmental organisations, UN agencies, and local organisations and communities. Since 1996 he has provided more than 250 training programmes in peacebuilding, development, and constructive conflict transformation to more than 5000 participants in 36 countries, and has been invited to provide more than 600 public talks.

Thank you, it's a privilege to be your friend. I had no idea about PATRIR, I just read about it some minutes ago following one of Zsuzsanna's events. I am very pleased about this taking place in my native country, and will go to the website to find out more.
This comes after I've just applied for a master in 'global health' and one in 'international peace studies', to commence in September. This social network created by Craig Zelizer is really great. Let's keep in touch and create something good out of this.

I'm intrigued by your work which appears to be an integration of development with peacebuilding which I am convinced is a strategic line of attention for Israel. I wrote a paper recently on the clash of paradigms that exists in Israel between development and security which I am convinced is a major hinge on which the Israeli-Palestinian conflict turns; "When Development and Security Paradigms Clash: Why Israel's National Security Strategy is a Recipe for Disaster - The Gaza Case in Point." I think you are on the right path to push at the intersection of these paradigms and ask what is the way to reconcile them for conflict transformation.
