I am a 45 year old lady from Mandera of Northern Eastern part of kenya.I am a teacher by proffession and has been in the teaching proffession since 1984.At the momen am an Early Childhood Development Trainer.

Mandera where I come from borders Somalia to the East and Ethiopia to the North.In 1998,due to the recurrent inter clan and crossborder conficts ,I realsed the need to start an organisation that involves women in peace building rater than them participating in supporting the conflicts. Therefore Women for Peace & Development(WFPD) was initiated. has a working group member of five women and headed by a coordinator who is me.WFPD,s activities were mainly ,Mobilization of the communities and formation of peace committees ,Conflict Prevention,Mitigation response mechanism trainings,Trauma Healing sessions and trainings,Women empowerment programmes and Social Protection and Rights programmes.
This year WFPD has been registered as an International organization with a different name that covers Both Somalia and Ethiopia.The new name is HAWENKA which in the Somali language means WOMEN but laterally its initials brought that means Horn of Africa Women Empowerment Network-Kenyan Agency.
