Profile

What motivated you to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
Having spent the rest of my childhood in the region of armed conflict and difficult circumstances myself.I am got motivated by the fact that young people are the most vulnerable in situation of emergencies and armed conflict, poverty and HIV/AIDS.They are also victim and perpetrators, used by warlords and cruel leaders to accomplish their selfish goals. It is true that these children and youth can be good citizen and development partners if well nurture and though peace and nonviolence.I think the process is now, that is why I am involve with working with young people who suffers the same situation as me.
Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself (no more than 3 paragraphs)
Founder and Executive Director of the African Child Peace Initiative (ACPI), A Liberian youth-led peace building and community development organization. It works with children and young people affected by difficult situation and armed conflicts and their communities for a sustainable peace.

Having experience war and violence conflicts during last fourteen years civil war, I spent five years as a refugee in Ghana. Despite of my status as a refugee at the time, I worked with young people and refugee families affected by the war to overcome the effects of war. Especially women and children affected by the war in Liberia, including the elderly community leaders. Coordinated and facilitated of the Liberian Tribal Leaders Reconciliation Forum in the Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana.I returned to Liberia December 2005 to contribute to the post-war recovery and reconciliation process by getting involve with young people affected by war and youth related issues and working with local community leaders for local development.

In September 2006 I got a grant from the United Nation Mission in Liberia for the construction of the first Multi-purpose Youth peacebuilding and Skills building Centre in Liberia, in a community once used for recruiting and drugging youth and child soldiers to perpetuate the war and violence.Included is an ICT sector that teaches young people how to use ICT for development. With all of these big challenges, I intend using my experience to enhance work with youth in Liberia using peace building and ICT to teach young people how to use networks to achieve their goals for peace and development in post-war Liberia.

In October 2006 I was invited to the Netherlands (The Hague) to attend an expert meeting on youth network development and to the 8th African Student Conference at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS).representing the aspiration of young people peace at the grass-roots West Africa. In December 2006 I was invited to the United States (New York) by the UNICEF/UNIFPA to attend the Expert Group Meeting on youth in emergency and transitional situation, also represented the aspiration of children and young people affected by difficult circumstances and war in West Africa,Liberia.

Domingo,
You are so right about nurturing youth to nurture peace. It's a direct route. I worked with homeless youth in Minneapolis for 8 years to add inspiration tghrough art to their lives of survival. Survival is necessary but not enough in and of itself. Youth must be inspired to
create inspired futures.
