Profile

What motivated you to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I have always been involved in crosscultural and interfaith work in my life. It is a natural evolution of my spiritual and cultural upbringing and development. I believe that people to people connections can bring more power to peacemaking, then political agendas and religious differences. which have served to separate and distort humanity's purpose of coexistence in a true and lasting peace.
Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself (no more than 3 paragraphs)
I am a woman who was born culturally Jewish, but lived in Gentile communities and attended public schools, where I was often the only Jewish person. I have always been curious about the people around me and deeply disturbed by the hatred of certain groups against other, which has led to murder and genocide, as well as, negative projections and discrimination. My mother was deeply involved in the civil rights movement in the 1950's, was before the official Civil Rights Movement in the 1960's. I was nurtured on respect for others, as a Jewish premise and human responsibiity, especially since so much of the world's venting of their hatred was vented against the Jewish people. I believe the Jewish people have survived throughout this genocide and descrimination in order to be a strong force to bring peace to this world and counter the hatred and violence that exists in so many cultures. I believe the the ultimate miracle of the establishment of the State of Israel is the manifestation of a vehicle for peacemaking, and that we have not been able to fulfill our mission due to the lack of trust, promotion of religious fanaticism, lack of civil rights for all cultural and religious groups in the countries of the Middle East and elsewhere, and the constant state of war that exists in the Middle East. I believe that Arabs and Jews and others who join this mission to create peace in an area so filled with conflict, is powerful and holy work. I believe that those who are called to this mission of peacemaking, are a wonderfully courageous group and I want to connect with others in this mission for exponential building of this goal. I want to help to create peace in the Middle East and wherever there is great conflict and injustice. I believe that is can be accomplished, if respect and genuine efforts to work together to create peace, are achieved. I want to be part of that mission in this world.

Hi Shoshana,
More of this stuff than people think takes place. Check out (google) the Parents Circle, Combatants for Peace, Neve Shalom/wahat al-salam for example.
