Profile

What motivated you to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I have grown up in the Northeastern region of India ----- a region characterized by a distinct ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic diversity and in which there are more than160 Scheduled Tribes, both hills and plains. Since the last few decades, the region has experienced numerous insurgent movements and low intensity silent conflicts causing immense pain and suffering all around. Exposures to varying degrees of conflict in the region motivated me to focus and engage in activities revolving around peace and conflict resolution.

IHL through NALSAR at HYDERABAD is correspondence course...they don't teach anything...you down load their teaching material, there are four main subjects...for each there is a kind ofresearch papaer tobe submitted online andonce you finish all four research papers, there is written test at designated centers...i was recommended thisby a swiss colleague at ICRC Delhi...it is of good value...since i was v keen on this subject, read and i learnt a lot...no wonder i actually stood first on it with a margin of over 9 percent marks from the candidate who stood second! one can only study a subject seriously when there is akind of challenge, target, deadlines etc...soi chose it. i recommend it for you. if and when you have any engagements in NE in general and Manipur-nagaland in particular, i would be glad to be associated ....my heart is with those people.

Dear Triveni,

Thank you for your reply. I had completed my the Tow-year programme on Applied Conflict Transformation Studies (ACTS) conducted by ACT, RTC and PUC. Yes you may get enrolled for this programme but scholarship is not sure. You may have to find out sponsorship on your own. But I think that it may not be a problem for you if OKDISCD sponsors you for this programme. Give me your e-mail, I will send the details of the progamme. When did you visit Cambodia for your field visit? What are your present work? Is there any opportunity, I can work at/with your Institute?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Take Care ... and Good Luck for your work!

Warm regards,
Bobichand

Dear Triveni,

Thank you very much indeed for remembering me. Yes, We were acquainted during the two-day workshop of your centre in Imphal. I also thought that this Triveni must be you but I was not sure as we have not been in touch since then.
Now, I hope that we can keep each other in touch. How is your work going on?

Now OKD Institute is situated at Dispur? Not at Guwahati, the earlier one?

Take care!

Warm regards,
Bobichand

Dear Triveni
To answer your questions....the National Human Rights Commission is fully functional
UNMIN does not deal with anti trafficking and any other development activities. For that there are other UN agencies. UNMIN deals only with peace process issues and is specifically a political mission. You can check out the details of what UNMIN does and its mandate at www.unmin.org.np
