The Somali Online Media and Journalists Association (SOMJA) condemns the arrest of Somali journalist Ahmed Ali Farah in Lasanod Sool region under Somaliland Authority, on Saturday, 31, March, 2012.
In Somaliland the violating media rights and targeting the freedom of journalists’ work are becoming continuously and it is impossible that the international community should not speak out such a ruthless attack on the independent media and journalists.
“We are calling for Somalilnd to stop the arrest of the journalists and to respect the rights of Media, because the media has right to cover any news exist in the region, we are also calling for the international community and human rights watch to file the attacks against media in Somalind.” The general secretary of SOMJA Mohamed Ali Abdi (Royter) said.
During this year, Somaliland has also arrested more than 15 Somali journalists and also took off air the Horn Cable TV based in Hargeysa.
Mohamed Abdirahman Ismail, who was a member the journalists it arrested, was badly tortured in the jail and he was hospitalized two deference hospitals in Somaliland, although he was taken to Addis Ababa, when his situation become deteriorated and needed for further threaten.
