I find the value systems of people to be closer than most expect.   From a low level cartel member in Mexico, to low level member of a "designated" terrorist group in the Mid East, or any area of the world, core values are similar.  Probably less expected would be the similarity of a high level cartel member from Mexico to a fairly successful stock broker on Wall street.  Often the key is to find the right scale or ruler to measure the value.  Then to find a way to create a goal that meets these core value points in a more positive outcome.  Education is the great balance, most of our goals are focused by our education.

 

Sitting down at a cafe in the Gaza Strip, or Reynosa Mexico, once you can get past the posturing, the talk will lead to family, work, and most importantly life. Just like in downtown any town in the world at a million cafes. Are values are pretty close the vast majority of the time.  To promote positive ways to focus values, needs to start from our first days of school, or training.

Jay Bonstingl, has done wonderfull things with students at a very young age, in his Leaders of the Future, Student Leadership Development program.   mailto:info@bonstingl.com  If we could get this program in front of student all over the world, it could dramitically focus values in a postive direction.

Today world is in desperate need of peace. And one of the best ways of promoting peace at grass root level is teaching peace in educational  institutions particularly at school level. In the context of Pakistan unfortunately this is a missing area in curriculum. However, in some schools teachers at their own initiative enrich their syllabus by incorporating themes related to tolerance, peace and conflict resolution.

I agree with hussien suggestion that topics on peace and unity must be inculcated in the subject areas being tought in the schools in fact here in our place in Mindanao, Philippines Peace education subjects were already incorporated in the subject areas from elementary level to a much higher educational stusies . But what we are only to be observant of is the way how the curriculum is implemented because there are some with your respect who tought Peace education which commotes devicive, personal interest but it must be just peace which all regardless of culture , race religious affiliation and it must be balanced.
