Alliance for Conflict Transformation publication: Skills, Networks and Knowledge: Developing a Career in International Peace and Conflict Resolution

In 2005, The Alliance for Conflict Transformation published the report: “Skills, Networks & Knowledge: Developing a Career in International Peace and Conflict Resolution.” The report is the first of its kind to survey employers regarding career opportunities within international peace and conflict resolution. We believe that it will be of interest to employers, to students and professionals pursuing a career in this field, and to the academic and professional organizations that seek to prepare them. For this report, ACT interviewed 55 employers involved in international and peace and conflict resolution work, including leading non-profit organizations, US government agencies, international organizations, foundations and universities. The report focuses on what skills and type of experience individuals need to develop a successful career in the field. In addition, a resource section for job seekers is included. This project is part of ACT’s ongoing efforts to increase public knowledge and understanding of the field of conflict resolution and in particular provide information and resources regarding career and educational opportunities in the field. Dr. Craig Zelizer, Senior Partner, ACT, and Dr. Linda Johnston, Director, Conflict Management Program at Kennesaw State University co-led the project. The report is available for free download (Download ACTWebreport.pdf)

Hi Craig,

Very resourceful report. Well done to the entire  team which took part in the project. May I find out what the team encountered as specific challenges during the project?

Thank you,

Thanks. Several colleagues and I will be coming out with a new report in September focused on graduate education and linkages to the job market in international peace and conflict. I think many members of the site will find the report of interest. Will be posting once it is out. Would appreciate if everyone could let others know about the PCDN network and the resources available.
