New York, NY 10017
Dear Mr Ban Ki-moon,
I have seen you speak many times about peace and about the many problems humanity has to deal with in our struggle's on Earth. I would like to help humanity overcome the problems of and caused by war by ending the human practice of war altogether.
Just to tell you a bit about myself, I am a social worker from Brooklyn New York. I work in a nursing home. In addition to this full time job I am leading an effort called Going For A Global Truce. I am attempting to inspire humanity to agree to a Permanent Global Truce and Cease Fire to end all war on 9/21/2012 at noon which will mark the 11th anniversary of The International Day of Peace.
A permanent global truce and cease fire can be achieved! We need to believe that it is possible and develop comprehensive plans through the United Nations to achieve this goal. We must ask ourselves what needs to be done to achieve a global truce by 9/21/2012? Then we can set out to take those steps needed to accomplish this goal. Step by step we can plan this whole ideal out.
A UN resolution calling for a Global Truce should be entered into the United Nations and be voted upon. It may be based on an expansion of the Global Truce and Cease Fire Resolution Peace One Day to Peace EVERYDAY.
Possible language for a resolution for a permanent global truce and cease fire is being suggested here as an example to think about. The wording may be accepted or modified after a review is made. The language has been drawn from the:
UN International Day of Peace
Peace One Day UN Resolution and Video
Peace One Day US Resolution
Some modifications will appear.
55/282 International Day of Peace
The New Resolution may be titled:
International Peace Everyday.
The General Assembly
Recalling its resolution 36/67 of 30 November 1981, by which it declared that the third Tuesday of September, the opening day of the regular sessions of the General Assembly, shall be officially proclaimed and observed as International Day of Peace and shall be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples,
Recalling also its other relevant resolutions, including resolution 55/14 of 3 November 2000,
Reaffirming the contribution that the observance and celebration of the International Day of Peace makes in strengthening the ideals of peace and alleviating tensions and causes of conflict,
Considering the unique opportunity it offers for a cessation of violence and conflict throughout the world, and the related importance of achieving the broadest possible awareness and observance of the International Day of Peace among the global community,
Desiring to draw attention to the objectives of the International Day of Peace, and therefore to fix a date for its observance each year that is separate from the opening day of the regular sessions of the General Assembly,
1. Decides that, with effect from the fifty-seventh session of the General Assembly, the International Peace shall be observed everyday and commemorated especially on 21 September each year, with this date to be brought to the attention of all people for the celebration and reaffirmation of our daily observance of peace;
2. Declares that international peace shall henceforth be observed everyday, with global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities everyday;
3. Invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, regional and non-governmental organizations and individuals to commemorate, in an appropriate manner, International Peace Everyday on the International Day of Peace September 21 of year, including through education and public awareness, and to cooperate with the United Nations in the establishment of the global ceasefire.
And modification to the Language of the Kellogg Briand Pact can be encluded as well:
Deeply sensible of their solemn duty to promote the welfare of mankind;
Persuaded that the time has, come for the establishment of extensive, non-violent preventive measures to attain and maintain a permanent global truce and cease fire and for a frank renunciation of war as an instrument of na tional policy to be made. To that end that peaceful and friendly relations between their peoples may be perpetuated;
Convinced that all changes in their relations with one another should be sought only by pacific means and be the result of a peaceful and orderly process, and that any Power which shall hereafter seek to promote its ts national interests by resort to international or intra-national war should be denied the benefits furnished by this Treaty and be quickly subpoenaed to stand trial in the International Criminal Court. All efforts will be made for swift nonviolent interventions to be utilized for an expedited resolution of the matter; Leaders failing to answer an International Criminal Court subpeana authorized by the UN may be tried in abstentia.
Hopeful that, encouraged by their example, all the other nations of the world will join in this humane endeavor and by adhering to the present Treaty as soon as it comes into force bring their peoples within the scope of its beneficent provisions, thus uniting the civilized nations of the world in a common renunciation of war as an instrument of their national policy;
The High Contracting Parties solemnly declare in the names of their respective peoples that they condemn recourse to war for the solution of international controversies, and renounce it, as an instrument of national policy in their relations with one another.
The High Contracting Parties agree that the settlement or solution of all disputes or conflicts of whatever nature or of whatever origin they may be, which may arise among them, shall never be sought except by pacific means.
On 9/21/2012 The leaders of the nations of the United Nations and the Leaders of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples organization will join together in person or via satellite at 12 noon eastern time and in unison proclaim "Permanent Global Truce Begins Now, Cease Fire Now!" following this collective proclamation each leader will be televised individually making this statement out loud and signing the proclamation. In Turn by alphabetical order, Each nation's leader will command their military and all forces within their country that Permanent Global Truce Begins Now, Cease Fire Now. A written proclamation will be signed by each nation and unrepresented nation's leader and a written order will be forwarded to all nations military command structure that Global Truce Begins Now, Cease Fire Now! Each nation will have 60 days to return back to the United nations after each prospective government body signs the contract in addition to their leader.
Which country will refuse to vote for a true well planned, well thought out global truce? Who can argue against peace and for war? Any objections to the wording of the resolution can be worked out and resolved in the planning stages.
The UN and all nations of the UN and Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization would best make ongoing plans for the time before, during and after 9/21/12 so that the interventions and plans will be put in place well in advance. We want the truce to hold up permanently, not just for a few days, weeks, months or even years. Going For A Global Truce Planning through the UN and through the world may continue on an ongoing basis 24 hours per day 365 days per year through an online virtual conferencing and communication permanently so that all problems that come up will be dealt with swiftly in nonmilitary ways.
I am requesting that you invite all leaders of all nations to come virtually to the United Nations via internet conferencing on a weekly or daily basis from now until 9/21/12 to begin a process that will lead humanity to a permanent global truce and a permanent Cease fire. Daily UN Going For A Global Truce Planning Sessions may take place where by the world leaders may really get to know each other better on a personal level, share about their life stories etc. If their relationships improve that will be one major step in the right direction toward a global truce. The leaders should put all needed non violent interventions in place to support a permanent global truce and cease fire which will be voted on, ratified and declared and codified into international law on 9/21/12 at noon!
Attaining this goal is so important that 24 hour on-line communication, Going For A Global Truce Planning Meetings and Conflict Resolution Discussion Meetings and Talks can be held via the inter-net conferencing so that many important topics can be discussed. Agendas may be set up and the leaders or their designee may participate as many of the planning meetings as they would like. Presentations can be made to the group in short talks of 20 minutes each. Video taping of all on-line conferences will be made so that a permanent record can be made of the discussions and they can be played back at anytime so everyone can be kept abreast of the situation and comments can be added after the meeting which can be read by others and their suggestions can be taken into account.
I realize this may be quite different than the way the UN is currently working but I feel that we have to make changes to the UN to enable it to really become effective as a peace keeping tool. There have been many wars since the UN has been established. The UN has to be able to play a much more effective part in the peace process by being available to work problem out on-line 24 hours per day.
This can be a work in progress where a Gong For A Global Truce Plan of Action can be established, problems can be identified, obstacles could be listed, goals can be set and interventions can be put in place to overcome each problem and obstacle.
We must take advantage of virtual conferencing since it would be too difficult logistically to have all the world leaders come to the UN Headquarters and make lodging arrangements. It would be too much of a security risk but a virtual UN may be created where it could appear as if every one was at a UN Conference Table but they would be in their own country.
I realize that all world leaders are very busy however we have to make time to to think about how we are going to create a future without war. We have to focus as much or more planning and strategy on waging peace and nonviolent conflict resolution as we do to plan war. We have to invest in peace. Peace is very profitable! We have to make time to save our lives as we are treading on dangerous ground. We are at risk of more and more war. We have to ask ourselves how and when will this ever stop if we do not go through this process.
I would like to suggest that the UN consider producing an audible version of The UN Charter, UN Declarations and Resolutions so that they can be downloaded listened to by millions of people. C.D's Tapes could be made in many languages to get the word out about all of the fine work that the UN has produced over the 60+ years of its existence. Creating a audible library of UN Documents may be instrumental in the global truce peace process. Many people prefer to listen to tapes or watch a DVD of someone reading the document out loud rather than reading the document for themselves. Millions of people will learn a lot from the wealth of knowledge that is contained in the collection of UN Declarations i.e. The Declaration Of Universal Human Rights if they were made available in an audio version.
Global Truce is an idea whose time has come. I will be spreading this idea all over the planet to all world leaders, the media, universities and more. Many people have seen my website and a ground swelling of support for the idea of a global truce to be negotiated and agreed to by all nations, unrepresented nations and peoples is growing day by day. I hope you take the lead to get the word out quicker and secure consensus with all nations. I will be making all efforts to accomplish this, but working from a position outside of the White House is obviously not as effective as if the US President promoted this effort.
In 1928 USA led the Kellogg-Briand Pact where many nations committed to resolve disputes pacifically after WW l, but before WW2. If the nations kept to the pact all wars after WWI would have been avoided. Let’s put all the interventions in place so that another global effort at truce can be made at this time to take root.
Going for a global truce is a much better option than going for global World War III, or going for a global mass destruction of life on Earth. Humanity is heading for catastrophe if humans do not start a mass destruction of all weapons of mass destruction on Earth.
I am doing this as a responsible person seeking to uphold the laws of this country and the International Criminal Court. War is a crime and it is illegal. I do not want my tax money to be used for illegal activity. I am doing my civic duty by trying to lead the nation and the world to peacefully end all war and find legal channels to resolve conflict.
I suggest the following ideas be submitted to the UN for the establishment of the following interventions that will strengthen the likelihood that a Global Truce can be agreed to and maintained in the future.
