Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I lived in a conflict war zone region during the war in 1996-98 in the great lake region, DRC. I became a refugee at 11 years. I worked with MSF, JRS and IIFWP. I started getting involved in peace activities after I applied to study peace conflicts and resolution studies with RTC- UK. After my work with MSF, I went to University and currently doing my degree in International Development studies. The reasons were simple, in refugee camps In Zambia, many young men were isolated in camps and they went back to their countries .Many of them were furious and angry and their plans were to work with their government and once a Zambian citizen dares to cross their border they were determined that they will enslave them as their country did punish them. I was worried that, regional conflicts were expanding than needed. Not only this, in kivu region, many people were dying, young women , some you could hear their voices screaming in bushes being raped , you could not help. In front of your eyes, bullets spread unjustly hit anyone, kids, young women who were coming from schools .I heard one female, as we run through the line of fire arms, she cries: my boy friend wanted me to have kid I refused because I wanted to study and now I am dying in middle of nowhere, without a kid nor even did I finish my education.
This day my life changed completely. I didn’t fear for my own life than I did so for others. As soon as I got a chance to study, I thought I should study accounting, get rich and have my own kids. I couldn't hold it; I decided I should do peace studies. After, I took a decision, a final one was to do a degree in international development studies, humanity and social sciences studies. It was important that you dont need to heal other by only asking them to be tolerant, forgiving as the world asks them. People have biological and psychosocial needs and they want to live in peace, love and care.
