Yumiko was born in Hiroshima, Japan, where the first atomic bomb was dropped in 1945 and she had been keen for world peace since childhood. After graduated from university, she worked for a Japanese NGO, Japan Team of Young Human Power (JHP) and contributed to improve art education in Cambodia, whose education system was damaged in Pol Pot regime. After that, she has been serving at a local NGO in Cameroon as Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer up to the present, being involved in community development and women’s empowerment. Currently she's studyng conflict resolution at the University of Bradford as a Rotary World Peace Fellow.
