What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
Would be glad to hear from someone who has done research on Truth Commissions. i was concerned by the way conflicts have retarded developments in different parts of the world, and more specifically motivated by the need to come up with solutions that would save africa from conflict trap and alleviate sufferings emanating from conflicts. My main area of interest is in preventing a return or 'memory' of conflicts by building strong post conflict reforms through truth, justice and reconciliation institutions as avenues of reforms in any country.

Hi William
I'm well, and my internship os going well...
Glad you managed to secure an opportunity there-sounds interesting...I'm sure thats v. useful experience
The UN system is very big...and bureaucratic...
As you know its is a policy-making body so alot if its work is high-level...a good place to be in the middle or later stages of your career...
Whats the duration of ur internship? Plans after that?

Hello William, thank you for your message. I think Kenya has the potential to benefit from International Peace Parks, and that it would be great to run an International Peace Park Expedition with youth from the various ethnic groups. Before setting up any programs though, I need to have strong local support and contacts on the ground in Kenya who can help ensure that the project implementation goes smoothly. I would be open to discussing possibilities with you - feel free to email me at todd@peaceparkexpeditions.com I hope all is well. peace. todd

Hi William! I'm very interested in your MA research topic. Half my heart lays in Kenya and I am constantly trying to figure out how peace can be brought to Kenya where it seems hisitory just continues to repeat itself and politicians manipulate the population with impunity. I was just in a program with people from all over the world and we discussed the various cases of TRCs such as in Liberia and Sierra Leone and Rwanda. Right now, I feel that the demand for justice in Kenya is more retributive than restorative and this is dangerous. and oh, how to get raila and kibaki to stop bickering and instead attempt to restore the country?? i would love to hear your thoughts!

How have you been? I'm taking some courses at American University in Religion in the Peace Process and Aid to Developing countries. I keep you and Kenya in mind. Have you ever heard of the Forgiveness Project? Google it and tell me what you think.

I'm doing my M.A in Kenya (USIU). Your topic seems equally interesting...Where are you studying (country and campus)? How long are you on vacation?
do you think a truth commission would actually heal our deeply divided country? How effective was it in SA, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone?

Thank you for your kind remarks. Of course I would be willing to be of help in any way I can. I have long been fascinated by the African conflicts and hope to visit or work there someday. For now I hope we have many constructive conversations.

Thank you for your kind words. Of course I would be willing to be helpful in any way I can. I would like to hear more about Kenya too. I have long been fascinated by the African conflicts. We are usually told we (white people from the US, especially women) would not be well received there as peace workers because we represent colonizers. So many of us stand silent waiting for an opportunity to be of help.
I hope we have many constructive conversations.

Hi William,

For a direct link to the Rotary World Peace Fellows program try this one: http://www.rotary.org/EN/STUDENTSANDYOUTH/EDUCATIONALPROGRAMS/ROTARYCENTERSFORINTERNATIONALSTUDIES/Pages/ridefault.aspx

Looks like there are Rotary Clubs in Kenya, so you could apply for the fellowship. It is a long fellowship application, but well worth it.

Good luck!

Thanks William for the comment, i am really impressed and i will have to share this with my friends esp those of northern kenya. you've given me the exact scenario in kenya. it is true kenya is bleeding because of us, we always recycle the same garbage and we are always behind them even when they are messing things up. a good example is of the recent maize committee report.
thanks.
