Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I had some experience the senior year of my undergraduate degree with elective courses in Conflict Resolution, taken at Portland State University. I followed up with an amazing experience at the European University Center for Peace Studies, where I attended their MA program. I have spent the last year working ot complete my thesis on issues of peace-building and ethnic conflict.
Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself or the work of your organization (no more than 3 paragraphs)
I grew up in a military household, my father was an officer in the United States Air Force. I spent 6 and a half years in the UK, and attended primary school there in north-east Hampshire. The family then moved to Germany, and I finished my time overseas at a Department of Defense school on Ramstein Air Base.

I started my college career as a Computer Science major, but finished several years later with a BA in International Studies and a minor in Japanese language and literature. During my senior year I took three courses offered through the graduate program in Conflict Resolution and then made the decision to pursue a Master's degree.

I attended the European University Center in Stadtschlaining, Austria as part of their MA program during the 2006-2007 school year, and I am currently working to complete my thesis. During my time at EPU I had the opportunity to be a part of a very unique academic community. I shared the living spaces and the classroom with a small group of students from all over the world. I also benefited tremendously from the teaching staff, the professors were excellent and from backgrounds as diverse as the student body.
Please list the countries and/or regions in which you (or your organization) have direct and significant expertise
I have lived in the UK, Germany, and Austria. During my undergraduate degree I focused my studies on East Asia, mainly studying Japan and China. I also completed the interdisciplinary portion of my degree in the African Studies department, focusing mostly on west African political history since independence. I have also maintained over the past year and a half a very close relationship with some Iranian friends from my time in Austria.
What is your current country of residence (or location of your organization)?
USA
What is your current job (and organization) and/or where and what field are you studying?
