Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
My background has been working for Justice since I was in school. I was a member of a student;s movement that was standing for justice among youth. I became attracted to the students group because I lived and suffered injustice. So in order to ensure that other youngsters did not suffer from it, I joined in the fight for Justice with the young Christian students Movement which had an option for the poor. During the war in Sierra Leone I became concerned as the war became intractable. Then I started thinking of at first revenge, but later I discovered that my country had not been practicing the culture of peace, so I decided to work towards promoting a culture of peace when I returned from exile.
Please list the countries and/or regions in which you (or your organization) have direct and significant expertise

Hi Paul,

My name is Whitney and I will be conducting my dissertation research in Sierra Leone next summer. I am studying post-conflict community building and want to compare two communities and how they have (or have not) rebuilt after the war. I'm particularly interested in traditional methods of rebuilding and communities that are more grass-roots in their rebuilding as opposed to those with a good deal of help from international NGOs.

I just wanted to introduce myself as it seems like you have similarities to my interests in this field, and may have some good tips and pointers for me during my stay there.

Thank you for the work you do,

Whitney
