Nawal has over six years of experience in the conflict resolution/peace education field. She has run trainings for teachers, as well as, in-class intervention programs for inner-city youth in Pittsburgh, Washington D.C. and Baltimore City. She co-founded and runs a Peace Camp each summer that has served hundreds of children and families and focuses on skills of anger management, nonviolence, and peace education. Nawal has also trained several groups of conflict resolution practitioners in strategies of working with gender and conflict; She also has been part of a team that led peacebuilding tours to the Middle East that focus on citizen diplomacy in conflict zones. She believes deeply in peace from the ground up and the power of citizens, and especially women, to affect real change in their societies. After graduating college, Nawal spent time as a community organizer with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Baltimore City working on youth and family programs that aimed to help the unemployed and raise literacy among youth.

Nawal received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Peace Studies from Westminster College where she focused her research on Asylum seekers in the US and US weapons sales to developing countries. She received her Master of Science degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University.
