Gulu Women with Disability Union (GUWODU) is a Non Governmental Organization of Persons with Disabilities founded in the year 1998 by a group of disabled women – (then called ‘Makmatic’ meaning “Just Focus on Work”) to protect girls and women with disabilities from discrimination.
The organisation is registered with Gulu District Local Government – Community Services Department as a Community Based Organization (CBO) operating in Gulu District. GUWODU conducts her activities in Gulu district and the neighboring districts curbed out of the traditional Gulu District (Nwoya and Amuru Districts)
The organization has a vision of “Women and girls with disabilities living a dignified life” and a mission “to eradicate discrimination against women and girls with disabilities through strengthening human rights protection, promoting access to socio-economic services and democratic participation in Northern Uganda.”
