What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?

I have been involved in peace and conflict resolution work since working with Somali nomadic pastoralists in the early 1980's on a significant USAID/World Bank funded project across central somalia. 75% of beneficiaries when I first arrived were carrying AK 47s, so I quickly learned that "development" aslo involves peace making and conflict resolution, ideally sooner rather than later. My work across Africa, parts of Asia, the South Pacific and Caribbean and Latin America since then has furtehr confirmed this need.

Trained as an anthroplogist, I have spent most of the past 25 years working in across all regions of Africa. The past ten years has been p[rimarily in the Congo Basin, while earlier years focused on the Horn of Africa dn the Sahel.

Specialty areas: natural resources management, food and livelihood msecurity, anti-corruption and good governance, forest and biodiversity conservation. I specialize in developing highly participatory approaches for planning and decision making that take staeholder positons, and rights, itno cosideration. Am increasingly involved in corporate social responsibility issues, and, community involvement in avoided deforestation (REDD) programming.
