Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
Beginning in high school I was involved in a Peer Mediation group that focused on interpersonal conflict resolution. That got the ball rolling as I observed how micro-level conflict develops, escalates, and can be mediated. At the University of Southern California I studied IR and International Security Studies, which got me interested in peace processes. As a project, I helped teach conflict resolution skills to young, inner city children through a program known as Peace Games. I recently lived in the Middle East for 4 months, which helped me see the great need for more peace-minded approaches to Security Studies.
Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself or the work of your organization (no more than 3 paragraphs)
I was born and raised in Redlands, California and only moved to Los Angeles in 2005 to attend USC. I studied International Relations with concentrations in International Politics and Security Studies, and the Middle Eastern region. At USC I became involved with my university and as a volunteer in the community: translating English-Spanish at a local eye clinic, teaching conflict resolution at a grade school, and serving for two years as a Social Programming Coordinator in student government.

I recently returned from the last semester of my undergraduate career in Cairo, Egypt where I am took courses in Political Science and the Arabic language. I got to witness first hand some of the broader challenges in peace and conflict studies. Following my studies here, Human Rights and Sustainable Development are two fields that I am serious about becoming involved with.

My plans for the near future involve more international travels. I received a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship and was assigned to spend an academic year (2009-10) in Budapest, Hungary studying humanitarian issues and developing a service project. I will also be serving as an ambassador of goodwill from the United States during that time, making myself available for talks and interviews.
Please list the countries and/or regions in which you (or your organization) have direct and significant expertise
Middle Eastern region, Egypt
What is your current country of residence (or location of your organization)?
United States of America
What is your current job (and organization) and/or where and what field are you studying?
Student - International Relations
Which are your primary skills areas(or the primary skill areas of your organization)?
Advocacy, Research

Caitlin, months ago you left a message on my page about your interests. I didn't see it until recently! I imagine I'm too late with this, but I wonder if you've contacted International Step-by-Step. Here is their website: http://www.issa.nl. They have an office on Nador u. (The Exec. Director in Budapest is also a great yoga teacher!). Hope all is going well with your work!

What kind of information are you looking for? I studied in Hungary for a semester during my undergrad years.

Hi Caitlin,

Nice to hear from you. The job you do is very interesting and exciting. Unfortunately, I have left Hungary in 2007, although I do have some relevant contact there. If I can be of any help with putting you on-track of the Hungarian situation, please, do let me know.

Cheers,

Rob
