As one of four speakers at the Somali Relief and Development Forum, S.O.S.-Save Our Somalia fundraising event, on 29 July 2011, at the University of Westminster, in London, I delivered a presentation about "The Effects of Famine on Somali Women". Female Genital Mutilation is still one of the traditional practices in Somalia, which have life threatening effects on women and in consequence children. Fundraising of the evening resulted in £22,000.
BA International Business Strategy Dissertation with Distinction in 2010: "Women Entrepreneurs in the Developing Turkey. The case of KAGIDER."
As primary research for my thesis, in September 2010, I travelled to Istanbul and I interviewed the Secretary General of The Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey (KAGIDER). With my primary and secondary research findings I scrutinised the push and pull factors that influence women in starting their businesses in Turkey. My research included the existing practices of honour killings, forced marriages and domestic violence as well.
