Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I've come to the conclusion after work in countries and areas affected by conflict from Aceh and Myanmar to Angola and Sierra Leone and northern Uganda that conflict is a major cause of poverty and underdevelopment. Its resolution should be a primary focus of development professionals.
Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself or the work of your organization (no more than 3 paragraphs)
I started my development career establishing a rural electrification program with the Agrarian Reform Corporation in Chile, studied ag economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then worked as a development professional with bilateral and UN agencies, USAID and NGOs around the world. I became interested in conflict and its relationship to development in Sierra Leone and have continued to expand on this interest through work in Uganda and Lusophone Africa.

What are some of your current areas of research (if any)?
I am interested in land and other resource access issues as primary causes of conflicts. I am particularly interested in development processes in the wake of resolution of conflicts in northern Uganda and elsewhere.
