Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I have over the years nursed an ambition to work for peace and social justice in my country and the world at large. The growing problems of crises, and injustices in the world today have challenged me to work more. I desire therefore, to attain skills in conflict resolution, peace and security so that I can be able to understand and participate in peace building and conflict resolution activities around the world. Above all, my vision is to see global peace and stability.

I am Ibrahim Al-bakri Nyei, a young Liberian with several years of experience in the public sector working with government and non-governmental development and civil society organizations.

I hold a BA degree in Political Science and Mass Communication from the A>M.E. University in Monrovia, and I am currently enrolled at the Kofi Anan Institute of Conflict Transformation Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Peace and Conflict Transformation.

II have written several papers (articles) and delivered speeches on issues affecting young people, women’s right, and children. On May 16, 2008 I delivered a speech on the topic ‘The Role of Youths in Promoting Women’s Rights’ at a sensitization symposium organized by the Women of Liberia Peace Network (WOLPNET). On October 2, 2007 (International Day of Non-Violence), the National Muslim Students Association of Liberia in partnership with the U.S. Embassy organized a Symposium in the U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Auditorium where I delivered a speech on the topic ‘Non-violence in Conflict Resolution; the Role of the Youths/Students. As a result of my contributions to youth activism and my work as a peace advocate, I was commissioned by the Universal Peace Federation as a Youth Ambassador for Peace on the 2008 International Day of Peace (September 21).

I have worked as a young peace and development activists in my country and its surrounding countries that form the Mano River Basin- Liberia, Guinea, SIerra Leone and Ivory Coast. I have significant understanding of this area.
