Dear Grace - Thank you for your message. Where are you doing your degree? Sorry our paths won't cross. I am trying to narrow my country scope and because my time is short (mid-May to mid-June) I won't be able to do as much as I would like. I may only be in Ethiopia and Kenya but am open to exploring where the meaningful work connections are. I am doing dialogue and reconciliation work with African refugees from the Great Lakes region here in the US and would very much like to connect with local leaders, scholars and practitioners in this area. Thanks much for any ideas.

Uraho!

Thank you for your comments and acceptin my invitation. I am confident that you are making good progress on the course. I hope to learn from/share alot with you. As you can see from my areas of interest, I am looking at the patterns of sectarian strife amongst the Hutu groups in Rwanda before 1994. ....just trying to understand a neglected angle of intra group violence: you never know what could happen to the Tutsi when they also settle down into the normal grind of power. If you have any information or sources thereof especailly on events that followed the 1973 coup (death of Gregoire Kayibanda and co., arrest of Theoneste Lizinde, death of Stanislaus Mayuya etc) please share it with me where you can.

Grace and all Rwandese,
I have just returned from a week long visit to Rwanda. I carry a bleeding heart over what happened. I am however encouraged by the new hope that has been ushered. However, the road to recovery is long and requires many players. I think that the world is to date not informed about the circurmstance around the genocide - every system there failed, and such failure was started decades ago - the governament, church, civil society, international community and the people failed. Lets work together to rebuild that wonderful nation

Hi Grace:
Pennsylvania has a thriving mediation network, and many mediation centers that will offer you the chance to either receive training and certification as a mediator, perhaps to then work as a volunteer mediator or as an intern. Several community mediation centers in Philly or in Pittsburgh should be fairly easy to find if you google Pennsylvania and Mediation. There is also a professional association of mediators in Pennsylvania that is quite active, and I suspect you could find an internship or a volunteership with one of these if you network and get to know some people. I worked for the Good Shepherd Mediation Program in Jermantown, and they would probably be interested in letting you volunteer/intern there. I encourage you to get certified first, then get as much practical experience as you can, because the skills you learn in a workshop take a fair bit of expertise to apply in mediation...

If there is anything else I can offer in terms of advice or guidance, please let me know. My private email is resolvit@yahoo.com, and I am always happy to help people break into the field, to the degree that I am able...

Be well,

Lee

Dear Grace,

My name is Chris LeGore. I am currently writing a legal paper on the genocide in your country. It deals specifically with the United Nations responsibility. I would like to apologize for any part the US played in it. There is no way that I could understand what it means to be in such a position. I only hope that through our work we can make sure it never happens again anywhere else.

peace.
