Neighbours Peace Initiative is a Civil Society Organization formed in 2007 and registered with the Ministry of Gender and Social Development on 24th July 2009.Initially it was formed as ‘Kenyan initiative’ with a theme ‘ We are a nation not sections’ to prevent and mitigate the adverse effects of the 2007 elections campaigns and post-election violence on ‘foreign’ communities in Narok District, Rift Valley Province in the Republic of Kenya.(visit: www.unsungpeaceheroes.ushahidi.com)
Currently, the organization works with Media Focus on Africa to implement civic education through leadership campaigns, democracy and good governance and SiSi Ni Amani to promote peaceful co-existence in Narok County through social media and sms platforms.
The main strategies in peace campaign include but not limited to, Neighbour to Neighbour, women to women dialogue and training of peace ambassadors from all the ethnic communities represented in Narok County per estate in urban settings and cultural leaders engagement in conflict resolution in rural settings.
