Profile Information

Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself or the work of your organization (no more than 3 paragraphs): Conflict transformation, ecopolitical peacebuilding and community development practitioner, Eric Abitbol works internationally from Montreal. Currently, Eric Abitbol teaches political science at Concordia University (Montreal) and Saint-Paul University (Ottawa), and publishes his research through York University’s Institute in Research and Innovation in Sustainability (IRIS) where he is an Associate Fellow. Working on a PhD at the University of Bradford’s Department of Peace Studies in the UK, Chevening Scholar Eric Abitbol is researching the peaceable effects of transboundary water communities in conflict regions, notably of Israelis and Palestinians. He was the co-coordinator of the AVOW research project – Adaptive Visions of Water in the Middle East.

Eric Abitbol was the founding coordinator of the University of the Streets Café public conversation initiative (Institute in Community Development, Concordia University), and for many years published and edited Cantilevers peace and conflict resolution magazine. He is currently a Board Member of the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development based at the American University in Washington, DC. He has worked for International Alert (UK), the Minority Rights Group (UK), WaterAid (UK) and other INGOs. He maintains a peace research, publishing and consulting practice, Peacemedia-paixmédia.
