Emrys Schoemaker has worked for the British Government, the UN and various NGOs, as well as with communities and local government in the UK.

He is known to be a strategic and development communications specialist, with a particular expertise in peace-building and counter-extremism and new media. He has lived and worked in the UK, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Palestine, Egypt and Sudan.

Recent assignments have included research for the British Governments Department for International Development (DFID) on how lessons from development communication can help counter extremism and the design of programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan on the use of communication to counter extremism.
