Dr. Vijay Kumar Chattu is an MD in Community Medicine from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (Hospital started by Gandhiji in 1946), Sewagram and MPH from Belgium with a focus on International Health Development. Was also awarded various global fellowships like NIH-Fogarty Fellowship in HIV/AIDS from UCLA, USA, Salzburg Global Fellow, Austria and WHO-IARC Fellow in Cancer Prevention. He is currently working as Associate Professor in Public Health and an Expert Member for WHO-EMRO for NTDs & as a Consultant for UNAIDS- TSF for SEAP region. He is a certified professional in Bioethics (NIH- ICMR) and GCP (FHI, USA). Dr. Vijay also had vast international work experience teaching & conducting capacity building workshops in Austria, Saudi Arabia, Oman and UAE apart from providing consultancy services tot he INGOs working for HIV/AIDS, Human Rights & Social Development. He has broad research and project experience in Health Development, HIV/AIDS, Global Health Governance & Refugee health while working with donors like USAID, World Bank, WHO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation etc and sound knowledge on various Health Systems, Social & cultural factors effecting the development.
Previously he worked for National AIDS Control Organization as State Epidemiologist (MOHFW, India), with International NGOs like FHI (USA) as Senior Technical Officer at National level, with International HIV/AIDS Alliance (UK) and have project experience with various bilateral/ multilateral funding organizations (USAID, BMGF etc). He has rich experience in teaching, research and managing health programs and has presented few papers at national and international platform. Considering his expertise and contribution Dr. Vijay was also nominated for Asia 21 Young Leader program of Asia Society, New York in 2011 and was awarded the prestigious "Bharat Excellence Award" in December 2012.
Areas of Expertise: Global Health Governance, Health Care Systems, Health System Strengthening, STIs/HIV/AIDS/ SRH, Mental Health,Human Rights, Peace studies, Bioethics & GCP.
Being an advocate of Peace and nurtured with Gandhian values from graduation days at Gandhi Ashram, Dr.Vijay is inclined to Peace & Development studies and in this process he was attending various programs at Institute of Gandhian Studies, Wardha, Global Disarmament Forum in 2001 & 2002 Swiss & UK & Moral Rearmament conducted by RajMohan Gandhi. With great zeal,Dr Vijay is still continues his committment to excel and contribute more to the society in this area
He is also the General secretary for the International Gandhi & Griffith's Society,Munich and worked closely with the Nobel Laurates, Demiurgus Peace International Prize & Gandhi Peace Prize winners like Bishop Desmond TuTu, Fr. Michael Windey, Maulana Wahiuddin Khan, Pricess Elizabeth (Yougoslavia) to name a few.
