Dr. Vijay Kumar Chattu is a qualified Community Health Physician and Public Health Epidemiologist with MD in Community Medicine (MGIMS), MPH with a focus on International Health Development from Belgium and a Fellowship in Epidemiology from UCLA, USA. He is currently working as Assistant Professor in Epidemiology & Public Health at Saudi Arabia and as a Consultant for UNAIDS- TSF for South Asia based at Kathmandu. He is a certified Lead Assessor of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care providers (NABH), New Delhi and certified professional in Bioethics (NIH- ICMR) and GCP (FHI, USA). Dr. Vijay also has visiting faculty appointments in Preventive/ Community Oncology at Malabar Cancer Center. He has broad research and project experience in International Health, Infectious Diseases and Chronic Diseases with donors like USAID, World Bank, WHO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation etc and sound knowledge on various Health Systems.
Previously he worked for National AIDS Control Organization as State Epidemiologist (MOHFW, India), with International NGOs like FHI (USA) as Senior Technical Officer at National level, with International HIV/AIDS Alliance (UK) and have project experience with various bilateral/ multilateral funding organizations (USAID, BMGF etc). Dr Vijay has expertise in Verbal autopsy method and ICD-10 and is currently one of the State Resource persons and invited Trainer at Institute of Health Systems, Hyderabad. He has rich experience in teaching, research and managing health programs and has presented few papers at national and international platform. Considering his expertise and contribution Dr. Vijay was awarded the prestigious NIH-Fogarty Fellowship in HIV/AIDS Epidemiology (USA), Salzburg Global Fellowship at Austria and nominated for Asia 21 Young Leader program of Asia Society, New York.
Areas of Expertise: Health Care Systems, Health System Strengthening, STIs/HIV/AIDS/ Hepatitis-B & TB Epidemiology, Cancer epidemiology, preventive oncology, Diabetes Mellitus and CVDs (including Research study designs), Epidemic Investigations & Surveillance, MCH& SRH areas, Health Program Monitoring& Evaluation, Verbal Autopsy, ICD -10 Bioethics & GCP and Ophthalmic Epidemiology.
