Maldives Human Rights Commission meets the Parliament to express concerns over the unlawful arrest and detention of the Maldives Criminal Court Judge Abdulla

A criminal Court Judge, Abdulla Mohamed was taken by the Military just over three weeks ago on the orders of President Nasheed.  HRCM Commissioner Azra stated that that Judge Abdulla has been denied his freedom and basic rights ever since he was arrested and taken away to K. Girifushi by the military. She also said that the reason for Judge Abdulla’s arrest remains unknown, and that he has been held in solitary confinement without access to a lawyer. Male', Maldives, Protest Continues for 13th night in a row

Since the Maldives Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed's unlawful arrest by the Maldives National Defense force on 16th of January 2012, the Maldivian people have been protesting in the Capital Male'. Although the Prosecutor General, Supreme Court Chief Judge and the High Court have ordered his release he remains held in solitary confinment in a Military base, with Military claiming they arrested Abdulla on President Mohamed Nasheed's order and will only release him on the President's…See More
