Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
For a good part of my life, I have been naturally guided to work in facilitating dialogue, promoting personal and group healing, social inclusion, and helping individuals and communities achieve their potential for greater peace and well-being. In my quest to develop skills as a facilitator, mediator, and international peace and development professional, I`ve been fortunate to work with some of the most inspiring and dedicated professors at American University´s International Peace and Conflict Resolution Program. As an Atlas Corps fellow in Bogotà this year, I now have an opportunity to help support innovative and high impact social development projects throughout Colombia through my work with the U.S. based non-profit, Give to Colombia.
Please feel free to provide a short bio about yourself or the work of your organization (no more than 3 paragraphs)
I possess over seven years of professional experience in international and domestic education program management and advocacy. Currently I serve as 2009-2010 Atlas Service Corps fellow in Bogota, Colombia, working as Project Coordinator with the US-based non-profit, Give to Colombia, supporting various high-impact social development projects throughout Colombia.

Between 2005 and 2009, I served as Assistant Regional Director for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) overseeing their Holocaust and diversity education programs, including the A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute-- a leading international provider of diversity and anti-bias education and resources. In this capacity, I implemented and facilitated interactive diversity workshops for thousands of educators and students, helping participants to combat prejudice and improve intergroup relations in their communities.

I've conducted field research on conflict resolution and development in Mexico and published research on the role of women in peace building and on international biopiracy. For several years, I volunteered as a mediator for the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County (CRCMC). Starting in 2007, I also began working with Voices for Sudan, a U.S.-based Sudanese coalition dedicated to peace and development in Sudan by serving as Director of Operations.

I graduated from American University with a B.A. in International Relations and an M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Hi, Danielle! Thanks for your note (although I'm responding extremely late...)

Yes, I remember when we were in touch before. You were doing great things with Diversity Education at ADL and I was at the GMU Center for Global Education.

Now you are an Atlas Fellow...congratulations! That is really amazing. I will also be heading overseas in 2010 as a Rotary International Fellow in Japan.

It's kind of cool how our lives parallel each other. Perhaps, we will actually be in the same place at the same time to catch up, eh? :)

Cheers and have a wonderful time in Colombia!

Danielle,
Thank you for your mail and your interest. I will keep in mind your interest in coming to NK events in Bogota. Could that also be about nonviolence? Please tell me a little more about you and your work.
