Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I have been conducting research in this field since 1998. The research interest was primarily motivated by the humanitarian and development problematic that were asociated with armed conflicts in Africa.

Emeka Okereke PhD was born on 14 July 1971. He had his primary and secondary education at Ikenegbu Layout Primary School Owerri, Imo State (1976-1982) and Federal Government College Azare, Bauchi State (1982-1988). He holds a B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Political Science with specialization in International Relations from Abia State University, University of Lagos and University of Nigeria Nsukka respectively.

Before joining the Defence College in 2006, Emeka held academic positions at various universities in Nigeria. Specifically between 1999 and 2004, he was a Research Assistant at University of Lagos, Associate Lecturer at Lagos State University, Abia State University Lagos Study Centre, University of Calabar Lagos Study Centre, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Lagos Study Centre, St. Augustine College of Education Akoka, Lagos. In September 2004, he joined the services of Igbinedion University Okada (Edo State) as a lecturer in the Department of Political Science. He is currently a Research Fellow at African Centre for Strategic Research and Studies.

Emeka has attended several local and international conferences, workshops and seminars within and outside Nigeria. He also has several academic publications to his credit. His publications focus on Nature and Trends in African Politics and Security. Emeka is married to Aniefiok Emeka-Okereke and is blessed with 2 sons- Obiefuna and Jideofor Emeka-Okereke.
