RUNVAN (Returned United Nations Volunteer Association of Nepal) is a team of experts and specialists from Nepal in different disciplines experienced under the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Programme initiated by the UN General Assembly in 1970. The first Nepali UNV was recruited in 1973 and served in Iran. Since then more than 1000 volunteers had served as UNV in various parts of the world. All the Volunteers are now under the umbrella of RUNVAN and is accommodating the available opportunities, exploiting the expertise for the development of the country within the plan and programs of Nepal Government, international donor agencies, INGO's, local NGO's and others.
Nepalese professionals who had served worldwide as United Nations Volunteers (UNV) felt the need of a common platform, which could unite them together; where they could share their experiences, direct their energies and contribute their enthusiasm towards the development process.RUNVAN, established in 1995, is an association of professionals who have excelled in their respective fields. These professionals include specialists in various disciplines such as democracy and human rights, governance and civil affairs, humanitarian and relief works, management and technology etc. These disciplines cover almost all social, technical and management fields. From the establishment of RUNVAN, it has under taken many assignments from different organizations at par of International professional standards.
RUNVAN intends to establish itself as a Center for promoting volunteerism to meet the millennium development goal. RUNVAN carries out research, training, and advisory activities for development aiming at serving mankind without discriminating race, religion, gender, color and ideology through volunteerism. RUNVAN values free will, commitment, engagement, and solidarity by reflecting them in its attitude and actions under the core values of the United Nations: integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity.
• Promoting volunteerism for peace and democratic practices in the development process.
• Enhancing relations between / amongst RUNVAN and volunteer organizations including civil societies and I/NGOs for their participation in the peace building process.
• Establishing RUNVAN as a leading agency among voluntary organizations of Nepal and maintain a reputed image.
