Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
Many socio-economic trends taking place in my country Papua New Guinea. First up, there is growing gap betwwen development policies and realities of our people especially our rural communities. So called developments take place in urban centres whilst 90%of our rural peoples continue to experience difficulties in accessing social support services such as health, education and socio-economic development opportunties to make decent livelihoods. These discrepancies become causes of anger and often disilluyssionment among our peoples especaially the youths. It seemed our political independence of 1975 was only for very few who live in urban areas. While in rural areas health services are non-existent and if facilities are present no drugs perenially, educational facilities are run down and roads and bridges infrastructures are in poor state or non-existent at all.

Hey Basil, Just went through your fotos and there are some great shots there. How is your project/organization going? Would love to hear more about what you do. We have a pacific news website at pacific.scoop.co.nz (NZ based) and we are interested in social issues in the Pacific. Perhaps you can write an article about land issues in rural PNG etc? Or provide us with some information? Will follow up... cheers Josephine

Hi Basil,
It looks like you are a busy man judging by your photos. I'm running my own small media business called Telinga Media which covers the Southwest Pacific. I've just launched a website at . If you have any comments, you can reply to me at telinga@tpg.com.au. I'm planning a trip (from Brisbane) up your way this year so maybe we can link up.

Cheers,

On 26th January G. Alexander McDonalld repliedj to an item that I posted on my previous Discussion re Tribal Conflict and Conflict Resolution initiatives in my country, PNG. My email account was hacked into and all my Address Book was adversely compromised and I lost all as a result. I was barred from the Network and lost all contacts from the Netowrk. I have since beginning of February re-applied to PCDN for re-admission to the forum. Would appreciate if G. Alexander McDonalld raise his comment again? Thank you, Basil
