Profile Information

What motivated you (or your organization) to become involved in peace and conflict resolution?
I observe with a feeling of revolt structural causes of violence and conflict (denial of human rights, refusal to build political and economic equality within and between nations, social exclusion and poverty, colonialism, imperialism, racism, ethnism, etc, etc.

I studied for an MA student in Conflict Resolution (2007-2008) and holds an Honours degree in International Relations from the Australian National University (ANU) and a BA in Political Science from the University of New England (UNE), Australia. I also spent 2 years studying law and psychology at the University of Burundi.

My Honours thesis at the Australian National University was on the challenges of conflict prevention in the Great Lakes of Africa (Burundi, DRC, Rwanda and Uganda).
My MA thesis at the University of Bradford was on theories and models of democracies, democratization and conflict prevention, with a special focus on post-conflict democratization. I worked at the Australian government’s agency for overseas aid (AusAID) as a policy and program officer on humanitarian and emergencies for North and South Asia (NSA) region, mainly working on Sri Lanka, Pakistan and North Korea. I also worked on Solomon Islands and the Philippines.

Prior to AusAID, I also worked for the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPACS) at the University of Sydney on a research project looking at transitional justice and reconciliation in Rwanda; for Oxfam Australia in Sydney for the International Youth Parliament and the African Youth Parliament in Nairobi; the Centre for the Study for Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) in Johannesburg South Africa on a research project on xenophobic violence in Johannesburg; and for the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) in Burundi, disseminating basic principles of International Humanitarian Law.
