Who We Are
Beginning with a catalytic expedition that encourages participants to push their limits and move beyond their comfort zones, the Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding works with locally-based partners to identify next generation leaders, design programs that encourage leadership and teamwork; contribute to conflict resolution and reconciliation; and foster respect and trust among individuals and communities in regions of conflict.
Outward Bound Peacebuilding is implementing its second year of programming with social entrepreneurs and political leaders from Israel and the West Bank in partnership with the locally based organization Search for Common Ground-Jerusalem, and has realized pilot programs in Rwanda and Sri Lanka. We are actively exploring opportunities with new partners around the world.
What We Do
The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding is working with the international network of Outward Bound schools to support the development and implementation of peacebuilding programs for their own populations and neighboring regions as appropriate.
The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding is providing the following services to the international network of Outward Bound schools:
*Curriculum and Consultation—Synthesizing best practices from Outward Bound schools, and consulting experienced Outward Bound instructors and experts in the field of peacebuilding, a curriculum for peacebuilding programs has been developed.
The curriculum is intended for customization to match the needs of specific participant groups, conflict environments and contexts. The Center for Peacebuilding also assists selected Outward Bound schools with the development of Peacebuilding programs and with the establishment of mutually beneficial program partnerships.
* Peacebuilding Training Courses—Specially designed training programs focusing on building and improving facilitation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding skills will be offered to Outward Bound instructors and are included in the training and preparation of all instructors involved in the delivery of Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding supported programs.
* Funding—Support and funding will be provided to selected Outward Bound schools for the delivery of high quality peacebuilding programs that have a lasting and positive impact on a conflict environment.
* Evaluations—A questionnaire and protocol for baseline, post-program and long-term evaluation of peacebuilding programs has been developed to assess the programs’ efficacy and impact over time.
