• Grants are normally given in the form of a salary. The Trustees prefer to support innovative and imaginative people - often early in their  research career - with whom they can develop a relationship. Applications should be submitted by those directly involved in the work--not development offices or paid fundraisers. Sometimes a contribution towards the expenses of a project are given.

• Grants are normally limited to 2 or 3 years, but are sometimes extended. They are paid to or through registered UK charities.

• Applicants should be sure that any proposal fits the Trust's current priority areas.

• Small one-off grants are sometimes given to projects falling within the current priority areas. These grants are awarded throughout the year.

• The total grant budget for Financial Year 2011-12 is £800,000

Proposals are considered as they arrive and suitable applications reviewed on a 'first come first served' basis, so you are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later. Don't leave it to the last minute. Meetings will be 'closed' to submissions at the discretion of the Trust and without prior warning when the number of suitable applications received far exceeds the grant funds available for the next Trust Board meeting.

Applications should  be submitted from those directly involved in the project rather than  Fundraisers or Development Offices.
Before submitting a proposal an applicant should make sure that their project fits the Trust's objects, and that it falls within the Trust's current priority areas. Please also check the What We Don't Support page of this website.

The Trust does not have an application form but an application should give the following information as a minimum.

• A one page  executive summary of the application in layman's terms
• What the aims of the project are and why it is believed to be innovative
• How the project fits the Trust's objects and current priority areas
• What the overall budgeted cost of the project is and how much is being requested from the Trust  
• What the grant will be used for. How long the project will take to have practical benefits.
• How the project / research results be disseminated
• Applications from young researchers should be accompanied by a letter  of support from a Senior Colleague or Research Supervisor
• Development projects should indicate where they would hope to obtain future funding 
• Please include a CV of key individuals who will be responsible for the project and where appropriate; job description, set of audited signed accounts and annual report

 Please send a signed hard copy by post to the Administrator. 
The Trust does not have a defined period for the submission of applications--they are processed and considered continually. The Trust aims to contact you within two weeks of receipt of an application to either:

- ask for further information; or
- inform you that the application will be going forward to the next stage of assessment     and what the timetable for a final decision will be; or
- tell you that we will not be able to consider your application further and the reason why.
