PhD studentships in Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law at the University of Aberdeen

The inter-disciplinary Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law at the University of Aberdeen will offer two or more 3-year studentships for PhD study starting 2010-11 and a further
two studentships starting 2011-12. We welcome applicants from
anthropology, cultural and literary studies, history, legal theory and
socio-legal studies, philosophy, politics, religious studies, sociology
and theology. The studentships will include full fees (UK/Europe or
overseas) and may include partial maintenance.


Please note that applicants must hold or be close to completing a postgraduate Masters degree in a relevant field.


Deadline for full consideration of applications for the 2010-11 studentships is 15 March 2010.

Our criteria for selection will be: 

  1. Quality of application
  2. Closeness of fit to the Centre's Mission Statement (available on website)
  3. Closeness of fit to one or more of our PhD supervisors (see list of People on website)

In Section 2 of your application form please make sure you do the following:

  1. Under Programme/School choose one of the Areas of Research listed at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/prospectus/pgrad/study/researchlist.php
  2. Under Intended Source of Funding write "Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law studentships".
  3. Under Prospective Supervisor (if known) you could write the name of the Centre member whose interests are closest to yours (see list of People on website) or otherwise just leave it blank.

Remember you must include evidence of your academic record, two letters of reference, and proof of English proficiency if you are not a native speaker. 

For full consideration you must submit your application by 15 March.
