Master's degree in Sport for social coexistence and conflict resolution

UNESCO, FC Barcelona Foundation (FFCB) and the UOC have joined forces to prepare future trainers for peace. The master's degree in Sport as a tool for social coexistence and conflict resolution will launch the academic year 2012-2013 with the objective of teaching to use the practice of sports as an instrument of socialization.

Introduction

The process of globalization in our society brings new social and cohesion challenges. Current models of social integration, promotion of education, and conflict resolution require new tools to understand and manage the human challenges emerging in the world, whether these stem from social, cultural, religious or racial differences.

UNESCO, FC Barcelona Foundation and Open University of Catalonia (UOC), have joined forces to prepare future trainers for peace and social cohesion. Through sport, understood as an instrument of socialization and as a vehicle for sustainable peace, students are taught to design, fund and implement effective projects for peaceful resolution of conflicts and achieve improvements in social coexistence.

Sport and its universal language have proven to be an effective tool for dialogue, respect and coexistence. Its values foster teamwork, friendship, fair play, discipline and education.

This master’s degree with an international focus responds to the training needs of new profiles in the management of socio-educational intervention through sport, using the objectives of the millennium of the United Nations as a backdrop.
