ODI aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.

The g7+ is a voluntary diplomatic group of fragile countries that was established in 2010 to give voice to conflict-affected states on the international stage. The group, currently comprising 17 countries, advocates changes to the way international partners engage in conflict-affected environments, and also acts as a platform for sharing and learning between countries.

The purpose of this role is to support the g7+ group of fragile and affected countries, under the supervision of ODI’s g7+ Programme Manager. You will conduct research, provide capacity support, facilitate peer learning and increase the international profile of the g7+. You will support the implementation of the New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States by providing research and technical support to pilot countries, both remotely and in-country, liaising as necessary with the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding.


The successful candidates will have:

• a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as international relations, international development, economics, politics or a related field
• knowledge of international institutions
• some experience working with or in developing countries 
• a good understanding of the political economy of development and experience in research, government or the development field
• excellent research, analytical and writing skills
• the ability to plan their own work schedule and multi-task effectively to deadline and budget
• the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and projects
• strong interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate successfully, and with cultural awareness
• working knowledge of a language other than English (desirable)
• willingness to travel to international meetings as well as to g7+ member countries (travelling up to 20 per cent of the time).
