Senior Research Fellow Security Foresight - RE.12.09

The Clingendael Institute is a leading think-tank and training centre in the field of international relations based in The Hague. The research and training programmes of the Institute focus on security and conflict, European studies, diplomacy, and the international energy sector. Clingendael serves to identify and analyze political, security and social developments for the benefit of governments, international organisations, the private sector and the general public. It also has a diplomatic academy that offers training and courses in service to the aforementioned constituencies.

The Clingendael Research Department has a vacancy per 1 February 2013 for a:

(Senior) Research Fellow Security Foresight for 36 hours per week (fulltime) Vacancy number: RE.12.09

Main responsibilities of the (Senior) Research Fellow:

• Carrying out research on future security developments
• Developing and implementing scenario workshops and writing scenario narratives
• Writing reports, op-eds and policy briefs with a focus on policy advice
• Giving targeted briefings at conferences and office presentations
• Managing projects
• Fundraising

Selection Criteria.

• Outstanding analytical and articulacy skills
• At least 5 years of relevant working experience and a graduate degree (at least a Masters and preferably a PhD) in political science, international relations, comparative politics or comparable practical experience in a related field.
• A successful track record in project management, research and training in the field of security foresight, scenario methodology, or providing policy advice is required.
• Has excellent English speaking and writing skills, a contact network and a proven track record in writing successful proposals for external funds and grants.
• Must be flexible and capable of working under time pressure.
• Experience with working in a policy environment is desirable. A skills test will be administered to finalist candidates to determine suitability.

Conditions:

• Location: The Hague, the Netherlands
• This is a fulltime position (36 hours per week) for 12 months, with a possibility for extension
• The Salary is in line with requirements for this position (maximum €69.000 per year), based on work experience.
