BBC Media Action, the BBC’s international development charity, believes in the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights. Their aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world, and audience is at the heart of all they do. Theirr Research and Learning Group (R&L), based in London and in each of their country offices, provides research and evaluation to support the development and impact assessment of media development and communication for development projects. As a Research Manager for BBC Media Action, you will lead its research and evaluation on preparing and responding to humanitarian emergencies and building resilience.
Role:
You’ll guide research to inform and evaluate communications to aid humanitarian response and other research under the theme Response and Resilience including lifeline preparedness and informing and measuring the impact of programming to improve resilience. You’ll work with BBC Media Action researchers, humanitarian and media development agencies and other international and local actors to plan research to support communication responses to both rapid and slow onset emergencies, and to report on the impact of these media and communication interventions to donors.
Requirements:
You’ll have experience conducting research to inform and measure the impact of media and communications to aid humanitarian response, including using real time evaluation methods. Experience working with the humanitarian sector to implement monitoring and evaluation as well as experience of undertaking or managing fieldwork and adapting methods to challenging and resource-constrained conditions, particularly to respond to a humanitarian disaster are essential. You’ll also have strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, and experience of designing and managing mixed methods research in support of practical outcomes coupled with strong quantitative data analysis skills using SPSS or similar software, including multivariate and segmentation techniques.
