Background
The UN Country Team (UNCT) in Uganda is supporting the Government of Uganda to address key development challenges based on the UN Development Assistance Framework and the Government of Uganda’s five year National Development Plan. In line with UN Reforms, the Resident Coordinator’s Office supports full coordination within the UNCT by promoting collaboration through joint programming including a Joint Programming on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. The UN Joint Programming on Gender Equality (JPGE) entails collaboration among 12 participating UN Agencies in the concept of Delivering as One, the Government of Uganda (GOU) and civil society with financial support from DFID. The JPGE is coordinated by UN Women. The JPGE includes provision of resources for strengthening capacity of the strategic institutions within government in gender mainstreaming activities. The National Planning Authority (NPA) Uganda, is one of the implementing partners under the UNJPGE, given its mndate of formulating and evaluating national development plans including those on gender equality. Under the overall guidance and of the Resident Representative, in close collaboration with the coordinator of the joint Programme on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, (GEWE) and the Head Social Sector Planning NPA, the National Gender Advisor for NPA ensures effective mainstreaming of gender in all national planning functions through technical guidance to the NPA Gender Team.
