Peace and Collaborative Development Network

Building Bridges, Networks and Expertise Across Sectors

Dear Friends,

Start your 2010 with a Culture of Peace.  Do not be left out!

It is time to gather fruits of the UN International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World, 2001-2010. A youth team including Cecile Barbeito from Spain, Meg Villanueva and Nikki Delfin from the Philippines and Marcos Estrada from Brazil, with help from Dr. David Adams and Professor Alicia Cabezudo, are  committed to assuring the End-of-Decade Report from the Civil Society. We ask for volunteers to support the evaluation by mobilizing responses from their own regions or areas of interest.

We would like to thank those of you who took time to complete the questionnaire online. We have seen remarkable Culture of Peace initiatives around the world - and we know that there are more out there to be shared with us!

In the Mid-term evaluation report over 700 organizations from all parts of the world took part in the report the volunteers' support will be crucial. The report is to be ready in May 2010, to be submitted to UNESCO. There are individuals and organizations in all parts of the world putting lots of efforts to cultivate a lasting culture of Peace.

Go to the homepage of the report: http://decade-culture-of-peace.org

Then click on "here" in the phrase: "Or click here for the questionnaire that you can answer and send by email."  It is on the left side of the homepage.

Alternatively, you can download the Word version of the questionnaire available in the website.

Your work is important - not just to the report but to the Culture of Peace movement around the world!  By sharing information with us you not only give visibility to your initiatives, but also have the opportunity to exchange information with other organizations and institutions.

183 organizations have already registered to complete the questionnaire, and we would like to encourage you to complete the questionnaire, or invite and/or remind other organizations you know who might not have done so. Also, please don´t forget the photos!

As it is a worldwide initiative we are inviting both individuals and organizations, especially if you are or feel young like us, from all over the world to take part in this process. Please write to one of us below, depending on where you are located.

Culture of Peace- every culture embodies peace and tranquility in itself. It is the geo-political environment, the big war industries and organizations being funded by them who made our wold a hell. in the very recent years UN has very successfully destroying Iraq and Afghanistan to make money by giving opportunities to the big war industries, oil tycoons, and all others increasing their profit from war and human sufferings. What is the logic behind this drama. Common people and children of various countries are not fighting each other. These are the governments, think-tanks, the executives of war industry who design, plan, implement and celebrate human sufferings. UN should work on them. UN should teach peace culture to the heads of Western countries and the US. UN should evaluate their progress. I am sorry to say UN has caused human sufferings in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Kashmir, Pakistan, Srilanka, Tibet, Sudan, Somalia, Kongo and else where.

hi u just made a hell of sense UN are a machinery 4 countries like the united states to continue to perpetrate there evils in the world aperfect example is the age long war in Palestine and the continous surport given to the Isrelies by the US. let us all rise againt this madeness and continue to promote peace in the world.

Hi Kadiri, we can surely pacifically rise against nation states against injustices - which started since the nations states started acquired power. "only the state has the right to kill, they train and delegate the right to kill to certain group of people (military)" It is surely not peaceful. I look at the work of Hope Development Organization, I look forward receiving your questionnaire!! you have a lot to share. in peace, Marcos

Aejaz, I agree with you, since goverments (nations states) have been in power, we, the people, are suffering. if the UN charter was followed as it is written "WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED ..." we would have a better place. The idea of producing the final report of the decade of teh culture of peace is to show the many initiatives going on - which they do not know. The merit of the work belongs to the civil society organizations working hard. in peace, Marcos

Hi Marcos it is high time we defined the purpose of our humanity peace is a million times better than war killing of innocent people for the sake of widening once empire is the highest level of insensitivity. our leaders in the political class should realise that the dignity of being a leader foes not lie in the name rather in the ability of these said leaders to bring development and peace to the world. The UNITED NATIONS, THE E.U, A.U ECOWAS etc should show high level of resposibility to the civil society.

As Aejaz Karim rightly puts it.The Military Industrial complex,Federal Reserve and the mining extractive industries are root causes of unending wars in the world.
The Five security Council member states are the same powers competing in arms race?
The 21st century is witnessing Violent Peace.Where arms are being innovated and sold to the highest bidders in the name of keeping Peace.
