Panos South Asia announces Research fellowships on Women's Reproductive health issues

Panos South Asia's Nepal Country Office is offering four Research Fellowships to qualified journalists from print and broadcast media in Nepal. The fellowship, which is supported by Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR), will seek to enhance the capacity of the journalists to include a rights-based perspective in their reporting on women's reproductive health issues. Under the fellowship programme, the qualified candidates will participate in an orientation program and training sessions in Kathmandu, followed by a field trip and a two-month long research and writing period. An attractive fellowship will be provided to meet all the costs related to the research. The training sessions will be conducted by the country's seasoned media persons and legal experts in a diverse setting.

Requirements for the fellowship:

Must have at least three years of work experience, preferably on health issues, in any media outlet: newspaper, TV, radio.
Must be a citizen of Nepal.
Send at least two examples of work covering the last six months (photocopies of or online links to the stories are also acceptable).
Propose at least two story ideas involving a right-based analysis of women's reproductive health issues and how these will be developed for media coverage.
Submit approval letter for leave for the training sessions (two days) and for the research period from supervising editors. Freelancers can apply with a letter from a relevant editor/producer of the media house where they contribute regularly.
Provide an i) expression of interest, ii) a CV with names and addresses of two referees, one of which must be professional and iii) a copy of citizenship certificate.

Selected candidates will be required to submit a letter of commitment from their editors to publish/broadcast/telecast the stories that they will deliver as part of the Fellowship. All application materials mentioned above and queries must be received by nepal@panossouthasia.org or at GPO Box 13651, Sri Durbar Tole, Lalitpur, Nepal by 26th FEBRUARY, 2013.
