Experts and/or resources regarding culture, identity and nationalism in post-soviet countries

Dear all,

I am working for the Institute for Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding (ICP). We are organizing a training in the South Caucasus on the topic Conflict and Culture. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, new identities arose in the different states. We are looking for experts and/or resources regarding the topics culture, identity and nationalism in post-soviet countries.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Dear Corinne,

Privyet and hello from California, from where appreciate your desire to help diverse citizens engage in the South Caucasus.

Beyond lectures, hopefully you will give them experiences of face-to-face engagement and Dialogue with its new quality of listening-to-learn what culture, identity and nationalism MEAN to each person and not only a lecturer or expert.

Our appeal is from experience since the early 1980s bringing together Soviets and Americans, Armenians and Azerbaijanis, Palestinians and Israelis, and most recently Muslim and Christian Nigerians, described -- with facilitator guidelines -- at

If it would serve you in planning activities, we'd be pleased to fly to cost-free our new 2012 documentary showing 200 Muslim and Christian "enemies" engaged face-to-face at the entry point to the healing journey of sustainable community building, beyond war.

Dear Ms. Trescher,

I am not sure whether you already have this information, but one valuable source of contemporary reportage on the Caucasus is the Caucasus Reporting Service of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR)

IWPR trains and supports independent journalists in many troubled and under-reported regions.

I noticed this announcement on the Caucasus Reporting Service web page, of training for South Caucasus rights advocactes in the very near future:

Dear Corinne,

I've been to Azerbaijan in March and have previously been to Georgia, so I have some experience in the region. I am working in political consulting, focusing on international affairs and foreign policy. Some of my work focuses on security sector reform and security sector governance in countries emerging either from conflict or having security sectors that were formed originally in the Warsaw Pact or under the aegis of Socialist or Communist principles.

If that sounds interesting to you, do not hesitate to get in touch:

Best, Dusitn

The training position sounds interesting.  My background includes a BA in Political Science/International Relations, MA in Political Philosophy, MA and PsyD in Clinical Psychology.  I also attended the European Peace University (EPU) and obtained a Certificate for the Advanced International Study Program in Peace and Conflict Transformation (Aug-Dec 2006).
I have considerable familiarity with the former Soviet Union due to seventeen years in the Army Reserve as an Intelligence Analyst.  In addition, I attended a Conflict Resolution training in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2001 where some of the participants were from countries in the South Caucasus region.

My published works include a couple of papers with the European Peace University, and "Wayward Soldier: A Reserve Psychologist's Memoir and Analysis During the Second American-Iraqi War.  Soon to be published works include a second book, "Soldiering on the Light Side - Post 911," and two entries on "Compliance" and "Outgroups" in the Encyclopedia of Cross Cultural Psychology

More recently, I attended a Cross Cultural conference in Amman, Jordan (July 2011) which was sponsored by the Common Bond Institute.  I presented on the "Role Psychologists and Conflict Resolution Specialists Can Have in the Middle East Peace Process," focusing on the Track II work of Herbert Kelman.

I have glad to consider a training position in the South Caucasus related to culture, identity and nationalism.  Please feel at liberty to contact me at
