Exercising Your Human Rights on International Human Rights Day

Pax Populi Supporting Human Rights & Peace

Exercise Your Human Rights and join Pax Populi in creating an open online discussion on “The Importance of Human Rights for Peace”

Monday 10th December 2012 is International Human Rights Day, a day which marks the anniversary of the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ (UDHR). This Declaration is made up of 30 Articles and was the first international recognition that all human beings have fundamental rights and freedoms.

As you may know the Pax Populi working objective is to help the Afghan people to bring peace to their own country.

As an organisation engaged in such peacebuilding activities we recognise the importance of such human rights and operate within the frameworks of such rights.

In honour of Human Rights Day, Pax Populi therefore wants to create an open discussion on the importance of these rights. We invite all people and organisations to come together and be involved in creating this discussion, by sending messages which can be in diverse forms such as pictures or even short videos (which could even be recorded from a phone!) to the Pax Populi Human Rights Day Event Page, highlighting these Rights and telling us and the world why they are important to you and for peace.

Because we have an Afghan focus here are some suggested questions to help you think about HRs & Peace in Afghanistan:

1. Is there a place for HR in Afghan society?
2. How can HR contribute to the advancement of peace in Afghanistan?
3. What can Afghans do to advance HR in their country?
4. What good are HR if they are trampled by violent insurgents?
5. What role can the international community have in advancing HR in AFG?

This is an opportunity for all Afghans and those supporting peace to come together and talk about the role of human rights in peace development. We therefore hope you will answer this invitation and we look forward to creating a successful Pax Populi Human Rights Day Discussion with you all.

Many thanks Pax
