April 9 and 10 are the first two days of Passover. These are the festival days, each following the Passover seder the night before. Passover is the most fully and widely observed festival in American Jewish life. By setting the conference at this time, the Center and the Forum have effectively prevented Jews of even a low-ish level of observance, let alone rabbis who are deeply involved in struggles for peace and nonviolence, from taking part. This choice of dates hardly seems to me an act of nonviolence. -- Rabbi Arthur Waskow director of The Shalom Center

In American Jewish life, Passover is the most broadly and the most deeply observed of all the festivals. By setting this conference on those days, the organizers have in fact, whatever their intention or inattentiveness, prevented almost all Jews of even a low-ish level of observance from taking part -- let alone rabbis and professors of Jewish studies, many of whom have worked seriously on issues of peacemaking and nonviolence.
