Call for Applications, Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme at Oxford University

Dear friends and colleagues,

In May 2007, the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) had the pleasure of launching the Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme. The Weidenfeld Scholarships offer exceptional postgraduate students and young professionals primarily from Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East the opportunity to pursue graduate studies at Oxford University and to participate in a comprehensive programme of leadership development, with access to senior figures from the public and private sectors.

Following an intensive selection process in April 2008, the 2008-2009 Weidenfeld Scholarships were awarded to twenty-five extraordinary young people. This group of 25 scholars will join the five Scholars from the 2007-2008 cohort that are pursing two-year Master programmes or PhDs. The 30 2008-2009 Weidenfeld Scholars hail from 22 countries from Europe's wider neighbourhood, including Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Jordan and Israel. Five US Scholars have been included in the scheme as of 2008, contributing to transatlantic bridge building. They are studying in a wide range of subjects ranging from Law and Finance to Environmental Management and Anthropology.

The programme is expected to select up to 40-45 Scholars for the 2009-2010 academic year. In our efforts to promote the Weidenfeld Scholarships and to widen the pool of candidates for 2009-2010, we are asking friends and colleagues around the world to once again circulate the attached information to relevant professional networks.

Information about how to apply can be found under the following Oxford University website link: http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/io/funding/weidenfeld.shtml

Please keep in mind that the deadline for applications for academic year 2009-2010 to the Weidenfeld Scholarships is the 09 January 2009 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy students, and 23 January 2009 for all other students. All applications to the Weidenfeld Scholarships have to be transmitted through the official Oxford University application form.

Thank you very much for your assistance in raising awareness about the Weidenfeld Scholarships.

Hi Czelizer,
Thanks for the post. But Am from Uganda and we do not qualify for the scholarship because Uganda is not located in the North Africa.

Best wishes
Suzan.
