Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is currently seeking volunteer applicants who live in the US for its LGBT Rights Coordination Group. In collaboration with other activists, volunteer leaders and staff, this newly formed group will develop and implement strategies to promote LGBT rights. Members will support some combination of work in the following areas: Seeking the decriminalization of homosexuality; opposing discrimination in civil marriage; insuring accountability for reports of human rights violations based on sexual orientation or gender identity; supporting human rights defenders at risk worldwide; support for domestic and international Pride activities and other outreach efforts; facilitating internal capacity building to insure the complete integration of gender, sexuality and identity issues in all of AIUSA’s work. They will pursue these efforts by supporting the work of local activists, utilize media and US and foreign government approaches, online activism, and outreach to allied organizations and the broader public.
Qualified applicants will possess a combination of content expertise and activist experience on behalf of LGBT rights. They must be members of AIUSA and able to contribute approximately ten hours a week and make at least a two year commitment to the position. All coordination group positions are unpaid but some basic expenses are covered.
