The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) is hiring for a Manager for our Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) Program.

Location: Mexico (preferred, but flexible)

The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) is an international feminist organization working to be a driving force within the global community of feminist and women’s rights activists, organizations and movements, strengthening our collective voice, influencing and transforming structures of power and decision-making and advancing human rights, gender justice and environmental sustainability worldwide.
Overview of the WHRD Program:

The Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) program aims to strengthen the voice and impact of international, regional and national women’s rights advocates, organizations and movements to respond, resist, denounce and challenge violence against women’s human rights defenders.

The Women Human Rights Defenders Manager is a full-time position responsible for providing leadership for strategic visioning, planning, implementation and evaluation of AWID’s WHRD program. The WHRD Manager reports to the Director of Programs and is responsible for:

Providing strategic leadership and management of the development and implementation of WHRD strategies and work plans;
Managing the WHRD staff and contractors, providing direction, managing performance and overseeing work planning to ensure appropriate alignment with AWID’s strategic goals;
Developing, managing and adhering to the budget and other WHRD resources, ensuring adherence to financial controls, and financial and organizational policies and procedures;
Making substantive contributions to all the products and activities of the initiative including research and advocacy.
Seeking opportunities for collaboration and joint work with other AWID programs
Contributing to AWID’s relevant organizational processes and initiatives.


7 to 10 years experience:

At least 7 years of experience in a non-profit organization
Participating in advocacy initiatives or influence strategies (at least 4 years in a leadership capacity)
Participating in civil society global platforms or campaigns
Working in a multi-cultural team (at least 4 years in a supervisory capacity)
Working with women’s rights or human rights organizations based in the Global South and/or CEE/CIS

Knowledge & Other Requirements:

Able to travel internationally (approx. 6-8 weeks per year)
Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/French
