STAR Seminars, or "Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience", focus on breaking cycles of violence in individuals, communities, and societies. STAR seminars explore responses to trauma after natural or human-made disaster and violence, strategies to transform trauma, and worker-self care. STAR seminars focus on trauma healing using a unique lens from the disciplines of peacebuilding, restorative justice, conflict transformation, organizational leadership, and development. STAR seminars at the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding run for 5 days and typically draw persons from around the world as well as from many different states in the U.S. who are working at various aspects of trauma or peacebuilding work--from local communities, to clinical work, disaster work, NGO humanitarian aid, post-war reconstruction, to relief and development. The seminars are located on the campus of EMU's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, a 2 hour drive from Washington D.C. and located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
