Event Description

This comprehensive 10-day course runs over three weekends scheduled across two months.

This intensive, experiential and highly participatory course is for practitioners who work directly with young people and wish to develop their professional and personal skills and resource to deal with conflict situations.

Playing With Fire is a deeply experiential training programme for adults working with young people to explore their relationship to conflict. It is strongly based on the Freirean tradition of critical pedagogy and 'praxis' and is highly experiential, supporting participants to critically reflect on how conflict operates in their own lives. The course particularly focuses on intra- and inter-personal conflict and provides an excellent foundation for putting peace into practice on an individual level.

Aim
•Gain awareness of yourself in relationship to conflict
•Gain understanding of what triggers conflict and how it escalates
•Identify own patterns of behaviour in conflict
•Learn different models for communicating effectively in conflict situations
•Learn techniques for defusing conflict situations
•Gain knowledge of the philosophy and principles of mediation
•Identify and apply key mediation skills to conflict situations
•Understand techniques for intervening as a third party in conflict situations
•Understand and intervene in persistent patterns of behaviour in conflict
